Space Heater Safety
When the warmer months hit, the office thermostat probably wavers between cold and colder. Typically, when that happens, employees start to blast their space heaters. Space heaters can cause a severe amount of fire damage in the right conditions. Space heaters cause thousands of fires every year. Here are a few ways to keep your business or home safe during space heater season:
- Keep them plugged into a wall outlet, with no extension cords.
- Do not place a space heater close to a rug or items that are upholstered or have draping fabric.
- Keep your space heater updated, and throw away any old ones.
- Keep a close eye on the cords and throw them away if there are frayed edges on the cords.
- If a space heater gets too hot, check it intermittently to make sure it is not hot to the touch.
